"The performances of Eternal Garden and the Concerto are brilliant. I am especially pleased
with your patience and your insight in finding true colors and
expression in both pieces. This is extremely demanding music!" David Maslanka (1943-2017)

« Eternal Garden » : Four Songs for Clarinet and Piano, David Maslanka
For years, David Maslanka has been preoccupied with the bombings of Japan in 1945. He tried to find a musical answer for it in order to convey some peace and redemption through musical sounds. The question goes deeper than the bombings. Maslanka tries to analyse the transformation of violence in human nature.
The movements progressively become longer, the last being more than half the length of the entire piece. A quality of patience and quiet increases over the course of the four movements. The last movement becomes a story told almost outside of time.

« Concerto for Clarinet and Wind ensemble », David Maslanka
This concerto is made of two large movements, influenced by old musical forms such as the toccata and the fugue. The first movement is composed by a free improvisatory part followed by a rhythmically dynamic second movement composed in a very strict form.
The concerto is full of deep feelings, but it does not come from a personal story. “Lamentation” is very intimate and beautiful. “Dance” reproduces the old sonata form with clear melodies: a bubbling and sometimes urgent energy, and a final release into a beautiful quiet.

« Il Concerto », Oscar Navarro
The structure of this concerto is made of one movement composed by three main sections clearly identifiable.
The first major section of the work can be divided into two parts: the first part is made of a very cantabile style tinged with ethnic / new age, unlike the second one, the typical flamenco music of Spanish folklore, which is a completely different and contrasting style.
The second section, with a minimalist touch, exploits the dynamic possibilities of expression of the clarinet, becoming at times very close to the human voice.
The last section is framed in a big dance where the clarinetist operates his technical virtuosity, being a cornerstone for the dialogue between the clarinetist and the Orchestra, very present throughout the course of this last section.
